There is no doubt that the production of timber houses admits one of the more environmentally friendly building systems. Timber is one of the noblest building materials; it is natural and renewable, and its transformation process is simple and requires less energy compared to traditional building materials.
Our respect for environment starts from the origin of the raw material: wood is
the fruit of the forests, which preserve the water and carbon cycles, and
protect the soils against run-off water. Those forests that are productive and
clean are the result of sustainable management and people's involvement in their
preservation, which results in an enlargement of the forest area. This proves
that the timber production process is not only less pollutant than any other
building material, but also beneficial for environment. But above everything
else is its contribution to energy saving; an ecological house can save up to
60% in daily energy consumption; being an insulating material, it acts as a
thermal regulator, which reduces heating costs in winter and cooling costs in
summer.
Besides, we should not forget that timber houses are highly healthy, that they absorb and expel moisture and help to regulate the indoor climate, that they also absorb electromagnetic radiations from mobile phones, televisions, computers… thus bringing balance to the human body.
